For a late night in downtown Biddeford this November, two short streets and three nights cover most of it. Twin City Diner on Alfred Street now serves until 2 a.m. Thursday through Saturday. Rift Arcade reopened on Washington Street with adults-only hours until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. Most of the places that keep a light on past 9 sit within a block or two of those two. The Pepperell Mill taproom and the Main Street café that used to fill evenings have both gone quiet, so the late-night map has moved toward the corner of Alfred and Washington.
Two evening anchors went quiet before the leaves turned
Banded Brewing, Biddeford's first brewery, ended regular operations at the end of summer. Saco Bay News reported in July that the brewery, tasting room and restaurant at 32 Main St., Building 13-W in the Pepperell Mill would have its last day on Aug. 31. Mainebiz reported that Banded pointed to sustained challenges facing independent brewers and said continuing to operate was no longer sustainable. The Portland Press Herald gave the same Aug. 31 date. Banded opened in 2013, and its own site now says the doors have officially closed. No coverage has named anything new for the space.
Farther up Main Street, Elements: Books Coffee Beer at 265 Main St. has cut its hours to 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily for the rest of 2026 because of staff transitions, and its live music program is on pause. It's still a good daytime stop. This fall it's selling its New Chapter roast in retail bags for the first time, through Dec. 31, a coffee Saco Bay News described as benefiting the Biddeford library. For an evening out, though, both ends of Main Street now close well before the night does.
Most downtown kitchens finish by 9
Before anything runs late, most of downtown wraps up at about the same hour. Magnus on Water at 12 Water St. lists Thursday through Sunday, 5 to 9 p.m., on its own site. In September it received a second pin from The Pinnacle Guide. Saco Bay News reported that, according to the restaurant's Google profile, it is one of 61 bars worldwide with that honor and the only one in New England. With seating ending at 9 four nights a week, it's a dinner reservation. It won't stretch into a late night.
Sacred Profane at 50 Washington St. serves 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. and is closed Tuesdays. Brickyard Hollow at 180 Main St. closes at 9 Sunday through Thursday and at 10 on Fridays and Saturdays. Batson River Brewing & Distilling is on the lower level of The Lincoln, which Heart of Biddeford lists at 17 Lincoln St. It closes at 9 Monday through Thursday, 10 on Fridays and Saturdays, and 8:30 on Sundays. Palace Diner on Franklin Street lists 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily, so it's a breakfast and lunch counter only.
Taken together, a 9 p.m. close is the downtown norm. Only a few places run past it, and most of them sit on Alfred and Washington.
Last call by night of the week
How late you can stay out depends heavily on the day. Here is the latest posted closing time among the downtown spots below, for each night of the week. Some listings are older than others, so it's worth calling ahead.
| Night | Latest posted close | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Monday | 11 p.m. | The Dunn Bar, 12 Washington St. |
| Tuesday | 9 p.m. | Rift Arcade, Batson River, Lincoln Lobby Bar, Cowbell, Brickyard Hollow |
| Wednesday | 11 p.m. | The Dunn Bar |
| Thursday | 2 a.m. | Twin City Diner, 48 Alfred St. |
| Friday | 2 a.m. | Twin City Diner; Rift Arcade until midnight |
| Saturday | 2 a.m. | Twin City Diner; Rift Arcade until midnight |
| Sunday | 9 p.m. | Sacred Profane, Cowbell, Brickyard Hollow |
Tuesday is the earliest night downtown. The Dunn Bar and Sacred Profane are both closed that day, and the places still open finish at 9. Wednesday stays later only because The Dunn Bar is open until 11, and Rift Arcade is closed. Real late nights start Thursday, the first night Twin City Diner runs its late menu.
Alfred and Washington after 11
Twin City Diner at 48 Alfred St. is the newest late option. Saco Bay News reported on Oct. 9 that it's now open 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. Thursday through Saturday, with a late menu of breakfast items, hamburgers, sandwiches, appetizers and specials, plus takeout and DoorDash. No other downtown kitchen on these lists serves after 11.
Rift Arcade reopened Oct. 2 at its new address, 5 Washington St. Its reopening night ran 5 p.m. to midnight, adults only from 8, with new games, food and drinks, including mocktails. Its regular week, on its Heart of Biddeford listing, runs 4 to 9 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, 4 p.m. to midnight Friday, noon to midnight Saturday, and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday, closed Wednesday. That listing still says "reopening soon," but the arcade has been open since Oct. 2. Rift's FAQ says weekend late nights are adults only. Games, snacks, cocktails, beer and nonalcoholic drinks are on its site.
A few more spots fill the 9-to-11 stretch on the same streets. Apéro at 20 Alfred St. is open Wednesday through Saturday: until 9 on Wednesday, 9:30 on Thursday, and 11 on Fridays and Saturdays. The Dunn Bar at 12 Washington St. lists 3 to 11 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday. A short walk away on Main Street, Cowbell Burger Bar at 140 Main St. lists 11 p.m. closings on Fridays and Saturdays. That listing dates to 2022, so confirm before you go.
A Friday that runs past midnight can stay within about two blocks:
- Dinner by 9 at Sacred Profane on Washington Street or Magnus on Water on Water Street.
- A drink at Apéro on Alfred Street until 11.
- Rift Arcade on Washington Street, adults only from 8 until midnight.
- A late plate at Twin City Diner on Alfred Street, open until 2.
Wednesdays belong to The Lincoln
Midweek, The Lincoln has its own regular night. Batson River advertises Gin & Jazz Night every Wednesday at The Lincoln Lobby Bar, at the same 17 Lincoln St. address. In November that means Nov. 11, 18 and 25. No start time is posted, but the Lobby Bar's listed hours are 4 to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, so it's an early evening rather than a late one. On Fridays and Saturdays the bar stays open until 10.
Parking at The Lincoln is easy. Batson River notes a nearby parking garage and a city lot, and now offers complimentary valet. Pair that with dinner downstairs and a midweek night out is done by 9. Wednesday is also the night Rift is closed.
December brings the crowds back
The next big evenings downtown are a month away. Heart of Biddeford lists Merry & Bright Night on Main Street for Friday, Dec. 4, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., with holiday performances, seasonal activities and lights. More details are still to come. The next evening, City Theater opens A Christmas Story: The Musical. It plays Dec. 5, 6, 11, 12, 13, 18, 19 and 20.
Both fall early in the evening. Merry & Bright ends at 7:30, which leaves time for an Alfred Street dinner and, since it's a Friday, a later stop at Rift or Twin City. The Friday and Saturday shows work the same way. The streets are a few minutes' walk apart.
If you're thinking about how close to Alfred and Washington you'd like to live, or what a downtown Biddeford home looks like a few blocks from the mill, we know these streets well. Victoria Bedard and the Bedard Homes & Realty team are glad to walk you through the blocks between City Theater and the river. Request a consultation.
